Castle Rock Preschool bases its curriculum on the philosophy of Maria Montessori, allowing each child to develop at his/her own developmental progress. The curriculum is enriched with learning materials that are intensely fascinating and absorbing to young children and stimulate them into logical thought and discovery.

  • Practical Life - refinement of small motor skills, development of concentration and independence
  • Sensorial - the discrimination and refinement of the five senses
  • Mathematics - from simple counting and quantifying to working with place value
  • Language - the journey or pre-reading through phonetic sounds and their names, writing and storytelling
  • Culture - through art, drama and music the child develops an open mindedness
  • Science/Geography - the whole child begins to understand his/her universe

DAILY SCHEDULE

8 - 8:30am - Breakfast

8:30 - 10:15 - Individuals/small group child-initiated work

10:15 - 10:45 - Circle, story, teacher-directed lesson

10:45 - 11:15 - Outside Play

11:30 - 12:00pm - Lunch and Dismissal

Research has proven that parent participation and community involvement are directly linked to academic success for children. Castle Rock Community Preschool is committed to parent participation in the classroom. Parents are encouraged to visit, assist, observe, explore and enjoy themselves in the classroom and on our Parent Advisory Board. Please ask!

Literacy and science come together as children read to the duckling they have raised.
Children are given opportunities to enrich their understanding and exploration of their world.
The outdoor environment provides for observation of nature.
The daily schedule allows for large amounts of time for child-initiated play. It is how children learn.
Children develop social-building skills during child-initiated play.
The classroom environment is aesthetically warm and inviting, providing enriched areas of interest at multiple levels.
The prepared classroom allows children to choose from didactic natural materials and activities that support their needs.
Teacher-directed lessons are engaging and purposeful for supporting children's developmental progress.
